Durante este tiempo han salido muchísimos lanzamientos inspirados en la pandemia y el encierro que estamos viviendo. De todos los artistas, los integrantes de Muse son quienes lo supieron retratar mejor. Simulation Theory Film (2020) fue lanzada el 17 de agosto y no es un típico recital filmado: es una película de ciencia ficción que utiliza material grabado en sus shows intercalado con una línea argumental con la que indudablemente nos podemos sentir identificados.
¿De qué se trata? La historia retrata una Inglaterra donde la gente está encerrada en sus casas a causa del brote de un virus extraño que está afectando al mundo entero. Un grupo de científicos va a investigar el lugar donde se originó todo y se encuentran con los restos del escenario de la banda. El concierto en el cual se basa el film tomó lugar el 14 y 15 de septiembre del año pasado en el O2 Arena de Londres; un mes antes de que volvieran a tocar en nuestro país por quinta vez. Las escenas que desarrollan la narrativa del largometraje adelante fueron filmadas a finales del 2019 sin imaginar lo que sucedería unos meses después: personas vestidas con trajes hazmat, civiles usando barbijos, protestas en las calles, un virus altamente contagioso y pacientes infectados, apps para conocer gente, canales de televisión que se contradicen. ¿Suena familiar hasta ahí, no?
En su momento, la idea era que el estreno sea antes de la salida del séptimo trabajo de Muse, pero se terminó postergando para este año. Tuvo una breve tirada la semana pasada en Europa y Norteamérica en cines IMAX cumpliendo todos los protocolos de salud establecidos, y ahora se encuentra disponible para alquilar o comprar de manera digital. A fin de año saldrá a la venta con una edición física junto a un box set.
Realizar películas de ficción con imágenes filmadas de un recital no es algo común. Tuvo su pico hace varias décadas con lanzamientos como Arena: An Absurd Notion (1984) de Duran Duran o Purple Rain (1984) de Prince. Al igual que las influencias de los ‘80 que tuvieron para el álbum, Muse no solo trajo al presente aquellas referencias, sino que convirtió la ficción en realidad.
Simulation Theory (2018), el último disco del grupo, toca elementos líricos que hacen referencia a vivir encerrados en simulaciones, mentiras de los medios de comunicación y no poder discernir lo que es real y lo que no, al cual ahora se le agrega el poder de la imagen para reforzar el concepto trabajado por Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard y Chris Wolstenholme. Con hits como ‘Psycho’, ‘Starlight’, ‘Take A Bow’, ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ además de la inclusión de temas nuevos como ‘Pressure’, ‘The Dark Side’, ‘Algorithm’ y ‘Thought Contagion’, continúan asombrandonos con su impecable capacidad musical y una puesta en escena a un nivel que ya nos tienen acostumbrados.
